Dear Clients,
Over the past 14 years Brown Equine Hospital had been privileged to be your provider for emergency situations for you and your horse. Even though there have been many sleepless days and nights, we as a hospital have enjoyed seeing the happiness of horses and owners leaving the hospital after an emergency situation. However, it is with great sadness that we are discontinuing nighttime emergency services beginning June 18, 2021. We will be seeing a few select emergencies between 8am – 4pm.
As many of us are horse owners ourselves, we realize the impact that this will have on the horses and horse owners of the community but due to staffing issues, we will no longer be available to offer these services. It takes far more people than imaginable to support an emergency service for horses (board-certified veterinarians, nursing staff, barn help, etc.) Our hospital has grown to the point of needing to add more staff to keep up with the demands of the service. Unfortunately, Somerset, Pennsylvania is not a place that people are looking to locate to. Because of this, we feel we cannot provide elite care to you and your horse in an emergency and that has always been and will continue to be our mission.
We have many good referral equine hospitals within a 2-3 hour drive. These include The Ohio State University, Marion DuPont Equine Center, and New Bolton Equine Center. If anyone has any questions regarding any of the facilities please feel free to contact our hospital.
Sincerely,
Dr. Keith Brown
