Dr. Keith Brown, DVM, DACVS, Practice Owner

Dr. Keith Brown’s undergraduate education was obtained from Otterbein College. He then attended The Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2001. Upon graduation he completed an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital. Afterwards he completed a three year residency program in equine surgery at Michigan State University and became a Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2006. He returned to work at Rood & Riddle from May 2005-July 2006, at which time he moved back to Pennsylvania and started Brown Equine Hospital with Dr. Jennifer Brown in 2007.

Currently Dr. Brown spends the majority of his time working on standardbred race horses. He is also very well known for performing upper airway procedures in draft horses. In his spare time Dr. Brown and his family compete in draft horse pulling competitions. He also trains a few standardbreds each year for racing. Most importantly, the majority of his free time is spent with his wife and three children, daughter Hailey and twin boys Tommy & JR.

Dr. Jake Swink, DVM, MS, DACVIM

Dr. Jacob Swink grew up in nearby Acme, Pennsylvania, competing in 4-H and rodeos. He attended Duquesne University where he competed on the university’s wrestling team while working towards a B.S. in Biology. He then attended The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine where he earned his DVM in 2016. Following graduation, Dr. Swink completed a year-long rotating hospital internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He then returned to The Ohio State University to complete an Equine Internal Medicine Residency from 2017-2020. During this time, Jacob also attained his M.S. while studying neonatal foal endocrinology. Each year of his residency, Dr. Swink spent additional time at Rood and Riddle gaining further training in equine neonatal critical care.

Dr. Swink’s professional interests include equine neonatology, cardiology, and respiratory disease. Outside of work, Jacob enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, and watching or rooting for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  

Dr. Jennifer Brown, DVM, Practice Owner

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM): Michigan State University

Dr. Jennifer Brown attended Michigan State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in animal science in2001 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2005. After graduation she practiced as a large animal ambulatory practitioner in Michigan until moving to Pennsylvania and starting Brown Equine Hospital with Dr. Keith Brown in 2007. From 2007-2009 she provided ambulatory service for Brown Equine Hospital clients.

At this time Dr. Jennifer Brown is on sabbatical.

Dr. Haley Rose Sutton – Intern

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM): University of Tennessee

Dr. Haley Rose Sutton is from Houston, Pennsylvania and she has grown up in the equine industry. From watching races at the Meadows, to learning to how to barrel race, to shadowing with veterinarians at the racetrack— she has always had a passion for horses.

She attended Otterbein University where she majored in Equine Pre-Veterinary Medicine. She then traveled to the University of Tennessee to get her veterinary degree (GO VOLS). With special interests in lameness, surgery, and rehabilitation, Dr. Sutton is excited to be in Somerset to serve the people and the animals that made her want to be a veterinarian as a kid. She is also happy to have her cat, June Carter Cash, and her horse, Zoey, here with her to keep her sane. When Dr. Sutton isn’t working, she likes to ride her horse, exercise, and spend time with her dogs, goats, chickens, and sometimes her fiancé!
