Dr. Keith Brown’s undergraduate education was obtained from Otterbein College. He then attended The Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2001. Upon graduation he completed an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital. Afterwards he completed a three year residency program in equine surgery at Michigan State University and became a Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2006. He returned to work at Rood & Riddle from May 2005-July 2006, at which time he moved back to Pennsylvania and started Brown Equine Hospital with Dr. Jennifer Brown in 2007.
Currently Dr. Brown spends the majority of his time working on standardbred race horses. He is also very well known for performing upper airway procedures in draft horses. In his spare time Dr. Brown and his family compete in draft horse pulling competitions. He also trains a few standardbreds each year for racing. Most importantly, the majority of his free time is spent with his wife and three children, daughter Hailey and twin boys Tommy & JR.
Dr. Anne Nicholson, DVM, MS, DACVS-LA

Anne grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and starting riding horses around the age of 6. She has enjoyed and competed in a variety of equine disciplines ranging from endurance to 3-day eventing.
She moved to Pennsylvania to join the Brown Equine Hospital team in 2018 and loves being back in the mountains as well as working with a group of competent, compassionate, and fun people. Anne’s veterinary interests include laparoscopy, emergency surgeries/colics, soft tissue surgeries, and solving complex cases.
When she’s not working, Anne enjoys curling (on ice), collecting drink koozies, competing in dock diving events with her dog Rocco, and sampling craft beers. She lives in Somerset with her two dogs, Rocco and Wayland and has just acquired a young Dutch Warmblood named Luka Blue.
Dr. Jarrod Younkin, DVM

Dr. Jarrod Younkin grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended The Pennsylvania State University where he acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Bioscience and a minor in Equine Science. Throughout his college years he worked with an equine surgeon which ignited his passion for a career as an equine veterinarian. He went on to attend Veterinary School at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in the West Indies on the island of St. Kitts. He finished his veterinary schooling at The Ohio State University. Dr. Younkin completed two internships, one at Brown Equine Hospital and another at Kansas State University. Jarrod then accepted an Equine Surgical Residency position at Kansas State University.
Jarrod enjoys spending time with his wife (Dr. Meghan Younkin a small animal veterinarian working for Murrysville Veterinary Associates). Together Jarrod and Meghan own 7 dogs, 3 cats, 2 birds, 1 guinea, 18 chickens, and a Standardbred race horse. He enjoys spending time outdoors and ice hockey.
Dr. Younkin’s special interests include upper respiratory surgery, orthopedic surgery, and lameness.

Dr. Jennifer Brown attended Michigan State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in animal science in2001 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2005. After graduation she practiced as a large animal ambulatory practitioner in Michigan until moving to Pennsylvania and starting Brown Equine Hospital with Dr. Keith Brown in 2007. From 2007-2009 she provided ambulatory service for Brown Equine Hospital clients.
At this time Dr. Jennifer Brown is on sabbatical.
